AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03)
The AWS Certified Solutions Architect — Associate (SAA-C03) is the single most-taken AWS certification in the world and the standard entry credential for cloud architects. It validates your ability to design secure, resilient, high-performing, and cost-optimized AWS architectures for real customer workloads.
This practice test gives you 250 scenario-style multiple-choice questions with detailed, multi-sentence explanations on every answer. The bank follows the latest SAA-C03 exam guide and is purpose-built for the associate level — questions are written as "A company needs X, which service should they choose?" rather than simple definitions, mirroring the real exam.
What the SAA-C03 exam covers
- Domain 1 — Design Secure Architectures (30%) — IAM users, roles, identity federation, multi-account strategies with AWS Organizations and SCPs; encryption with KMS and CloudHSM; secrets management; protecting data in transit and at rest; secure VPC design (security groups, NACLs, VPC endpoints, AWS PrivateLink, AWS Network Firewall); managing detective controls (CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, Config, Macie).
- Domain 2 — Design Resilient Architectures (26%) — multi-AZ and multi-Region designs; AWS Backup and disaster-recovery patterns (backup-restore, pilot light, warm standby, multi-site active-active); decoupling architectures with SQS, SNS, EventBridge, and Step Functions; resilient storage with S3 cross-Region replication, EFS, FSx, EBS snapshots; database resilience with RDS Multi-AZ, Aurora Global Database, DynamoDB global tables; auto-scaling and self-healing with EC2 Auto Scaling and ECS / EKS.
- Domain 3 — Design High-Performing Architectures (24%) — choosing the right storage class and tier (S3 classes, EBS gp3/io2, EFS, FSx flavors, instance store); database selection (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache, Neptune, Timestream, DocumentDB); compute selection (EC2 family, Lambda, ECS / EKS / Fargate, Batch); content delivery with CloudFront, Global Accelerator, and AWS Wavelength; data ingestion and stream processing with Kinesis, MSK, and EMR.
- Domain 4 — Design Cost-Optimized Architectures (20%) — purchase options (On-Demand, Reserved, Spot, Savings Plans, Dedicated Hosts) and when to apply each; right-sizing with Compute Optimizer and Trusted Advisor; storage cost optimization (Intelligent-Tiering, lifecycle policies, S3 Glacier classes, EBS snapshot management); database cost optimization (Aurora Serverless, RDS Reservations); data-transfer cost patterns; tagging and AWS Cost and Usage Report; AWS Budgets and anomaly detection.
Exam format on AWS
The live SAA-C03 has 65 questions to be completed in 130 minutes, with a passing score of around 720 / 1000 (~72%). Questions are multiple choice and multiple response, mostly scenario-based. The exam is available in many languages and at both online-proctored and test-center modalities.
Who should take this?
Cloud architects, DevOps engineers, full-stack developers, SREs, and senior systems administrators with at least one year of hands-on AWS design experience. AWS recommends completing the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) first if you are completely new to AWS — though it is not formally required. SAA-C03 is also the prerequisite-style stepping stone for Solutions Architect Professional (SAP-C02) and many Specialty certifications.
